Review: ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea’ K-drama (2016)

“The easiest thing in the world is getting disappointed by another person. Even after liking someone after his/her outer appearance, one will quickly be disappointed. That’s how human beings are” – Heo joon Jae

I was in my prime era in 2016, when I watched every single masterpiece K-drama that is still talked about a decade later. I rewatched one of my most favourite K-dramas, “The Legend of the Blue Sea”, to just get the experience of 2016 and write a review for you guys. When I tell you watching this drama truly brought me back to 2016, and I loved every second of it, I wish I had a time machine so I could travel back in time and experience it all over again. The Legend of the Blue Sea is a fantasy drama between a mermaid and a human. A mermaid named Shim Chaeong has to leave her home and survive in the human world, where she knows nothing about humans. She meets a con artist named Heo Joon Jae and it’s group, and then the fun begins.

Let’s start with the mermaid itself. When I say she is one of the iconic characters, I mean it especially since it is played by the queen herself, Jun Ji-Hyun. I think she was born to play this role because she looked like a mermaid. She is so funny, and her expression was everything. She was like a child in the human world who learned everything about humans, and it was so fun to watch. I loved her expression, and when she didn’t know the human language, the way she always ended up doing something stupid made me laugh so hard.

Then we have our Heo Joon-jae, another iconic character played by dashing Lee Min-ho. He looks cold-hearted until he opens his mouth. I absolutely loved his character; he made me laugh more than the mermaid. His expression was top-notch. Especially dealing with a mermaid. The boy was actually suffering throughout the show first; he got stuck with the mermaid and her weird ways, and then he could hear her every thought after she fell in love with him, and he couldn’t sleep, which was hilarious to watch.

Their group, Park Moo and Tae-oh, are freaking hilarious. Nobody can say they are con artists because they are so stupid and funny. I loved every part of the drama, even the emotional part where he always falls in love with her and she almost gives up her life for him.

The chemistry of Lee Min-ho and Jung is iconic. They were truly made for these characters. They were everything but I loved their comedy part the most, even after falling in love, they would do stupid things. Their emotional part and their love were heartwarming to watch.

The plot is so good, in a way, that nothing is overpowering anything. The way she also gets tangled up in their group and becomes a con artist was so much fun to watch. Overall, the plot kept me engaged throughout the entire drama. There was romance, comedy, and an emotional aspect, and for a 2016 drama, it was iconic. The way they added so many mermaid elements was a treat to watch.

There are so many scenes from this drama which have now become memes, which is a treat to watch in today’s time. I loved their umbrella scene; no matter what, K-dramas will always be iconic for their umbrella scenes.

The cinematography is iconic. The blue elements of the water were really foreshadowing, which I absolutely loved.

Overall, I highly recommend this iconic drama.

“Even through the windy rainstorm, even though the sun may be burning down on me, though I am lonely and without anyone by my side and even if it’s somewhere I have never been before, I will endure it all and be sure to go to you. I love you.- Shim Chung

Passion.

Seek what sets your soul on fire.

I love to hear when people talk about things they love with passion in their eyes. I never knew that having things you love is a luxury in this world. People are lucky when they see what they love and continue to do it. It is so funny that when we are children we decide we want to become something just like that. But when we grow up when actual responsibility falls on us we realize it is so important to choose what we truly love because we are going to be stuck so it is better to figure out which direction is for us. In my life, I never really had a passion for things until blogging. I just knew I loved writing and had to do it and here I am, proud of my passion. I love to hear when people tell the work they are doing, and the hobbies they are engaged in are something they love. I love to see how they are so passionate about it and it can be seen in their eyes the way they talk. And I want to be that person as well, when I talk about my passion I want my heart to burst out of energy, my eyes to sparkle, my stomach to be filled with butterflies and my mind waiting to get back to what I love. I feel like a lucky person because I have found what I love. When I told you for the longest time in my life, I had no clue what I love and what my heart desires. And it hurts seeing others have something they love while I am stuck to the ground unable to find my passion. But now I know, I love writing, I love telling people what writing means to me and how grateful I am to find something that sets my soul on fire. If you are still stuck to the ground, don’t worry you will find something that will set your soul on fire, take it from me, I spent years finding something I love and I know you will also find your passion.

People with great passion can make the impossible happen.

Review: ‘Love O2O’ C-drama (2016)

“After watching the video, you never doubted Bei Wei Wei? You trust her that much? Why wouldn’t I trust my girlfriend?” – Xiao Nai

I will never stop yapping about this Chinese drama ever in my life and it is my favourite drama. I want to say that this drama is mind-blowing to start your C-drama journey, however, I am afraid it might make your expectations higher than infinity. Also, there is no C-drama like this made again. Bei Wei Wei is a beauty with a brain girl who is majoring in computer science and loves to play games online. On the other hand, Xiao Nai is a cold-hearted boy who is also majoring in computer science and loves to play games online. So both get married in the virtual game, however, they don’t know anything about each other in real life.

This drama has set the expectations for other dramas too high because there is nothing in this drama that I did not like. First of all the plot is simple yet very fun because it goes back and forth from the leads being the players in the game and then they are shown in real life. The cinematography is amazing, and the game shown is so beautiful that it makes you think you are part of the drama.

Now talking about my favourite thing about this drama is the leads. If you are a follower of C-drama, you might know that it follows the pattern of rich boy and poor girl. The boy is handsome while the girl is not beautiful, then the parents’ opinion, another girl or boy, which to be honest I am not a fan of. But this drama broke all the patterns and such a beautiful story was created.

Xiao Nai is handsome and very popular yet he is a gentleman. He knows what he wants and trusts Bei Wei Wei like every man should do for their woman. He legit fell in love with her from behind that too at first sight and then only he decided he wanted her and after that fate worked out for him. Now, Bei Wei Wei is also a popular girl with beauty and brain which for a Chinese female lead is rare. I think I loved that about this drama they made both of them equally great for each other. I love how modest she is, she’s classy, knows her worth and is strong irrespective of being shy.

The romance between them at first is awkward because he is very straightforward while she is very shy. They both understand each other without saying much which I liked. The chemistry is electrifying. Both love and support each other so much. I wish to have a relationship like them. There is no moment in the drama where he does not believe her or where she doesn’t believe in him. There is no misunderstanding, it is just straight-up learning about each other.

I love both of their friendship groups there is not much interaction between their friendship group and there is no pairing among their friends which is also very rare. I just wished for their interaction as it would be funny as hell. The second lead couple is so sweet but the story mainly focuses on the first lead couple.

I highly recommend this drama, it is all about romance and the beauty of trusting and believing in each other.

Love Yourself!

We are all better versions of ourselves when we are love ourselves.

The biggest lesson one has to teach someone or to learn themselves is to love yourself. In this world, we are so used to giving things to others then amidst we forget ourselves. The courage, the lessons, the hardships, the confidence is all the negative as well as positive learning we learn by ourselves only. The best learning one can learn it by themselves. The major problem the youth is facing is not believing in themselves, loving themselves. When someone asks ‘describe yourself’, it takes a long pause for the person to answer it. You know why because we always forget to make ourselves our priority. I have seen many people saying that they can’t find anyone compatible with them. After giving so much thought to that I came to the conclusion that when a person doesn’t even know themselves then how can they will fit anywhere? Nobody needs to change to fit somewhere, recognize yourself, pay attention to yourself because nobody is as important as you. Figuring out yourself takes a lot of time because always the wrong path takes you in the right direction. I am still figuring out myself and letting myself have the time to know the real me because when you force yourself to adapt things it will be more complicated. Many times we lose confidence, we stop believing in ourselves, we just don’t trust ourselves and that makes you stop everything at that moment. Figure yourself and life will itself be the way you want. Embrace yourself, love yourself and then there is nothing that can break you and your confidence.

Nobody can make you happy until you’re happy with yourself first.
